(7 Nov 2018) Jewish students in Berlin have marked the 80th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the "Night of Broken Glass" when Nazis terrorised Jews throughout Germany.
Some 30 students from the Jewish Traditional School lit candles and recited prayers on Wednesday as community leader Rabbi Yehuda Teichtal urged them to help overcome Germany's past by building a secure future for Jews in the country.
Kristallnacht was a seminal moment leading up to the Holocaust.
On that day - 9 November 1938 - the Nazis killed at least 91 Jews, burned down hundreds of synagogues, and arrested up to 30,000 Jewish men who were later transferred to concentration camps.
Rabbi Teichtal told the schoolchildren that the answer to the evil of the past was to educate people for the future.
He also commented on last week's deadly attack on a synagogue in Pittsburgh, in which a gunman massacred 11 people.
