http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com The Mountain Travel Sobek group left Mt. Koya towards the little post town of Magome, the actual beginning of our walk on the Nakasendo Trail. On a bus back to the funicular; down the funicular; on a train; more trains and subways; up stairs, down stairs, through long corridors; still another bus; until we arrived in Magome, late in the day. A walk uphill (naturally) to reach Tajimaya Inn, dating back to the old Post Station days. There are are 69 Post Stations on the old Nakesendo Road. In days of yore, the people would travel from the capital of Japan, Kyoto to Edo (now Tokyo) on foot, litter or horseback, staying at a different Post Station each night.
