Sudan is anticipating the lifting of economic sanctions imposed by Washington in 1997.

Sudan's president Omar Hassan al-Bashir says his country has worked towards building peace and reconciliation in the embattled region of Darfur.

Bashir also says the sanctions slapped by the US on his country have severely hurt the population.

He was speaking at a meeting discussing threats facing Africa and ways of stabilizing the continent.
