The illegal trade in protected species is a business estimated to be worth 20 billion dollars a year. Only narcotics and arms are more lucrative for smugglers. Dogs trained to sniff out exotic animals and plants are now at work in Frankfurt airport. The two also have a nose for ivory and caviar.
