Destiny 2 - New Player Guide- Light / Power vs. Player Level

The main purpose of this video is to discuss the difference between your character or player level, and your light or power level.  Destiny has a dual leveling system which can be confusing to people getting into the game for the first time.

Your player level is very much like a traditional RPG leveling system, where your rewarded experience points for completing missions and quests, defeating enemies, and accomplishing objectives.  The current max player level is Level 30, and in the Forsaken expansion that's being increased to Level 50.  Player level is easy to max out, and the main purpose here is that it largely governs which types of weapon and armor you can equip.  

Light / Power level is the other side of the equation.  Whereas it's easy to max out your player level, it's much more difficult to hit the max power level.  In Forsaken, your max power level will be 600.  Light level determines which types of activities you can do, as there is a recommended light / power attributed to pretty much any PVE content.
