When it’s up to the worship band to figure out the song arrangement, it helps to think of music as rhythms, melodies and atmospheres. You need to know what they are, how to recognize them within a song and who in the band is responsible for them. Back in the day, the church pianist or the members of the orchestra just played what was on the sheet music—what someone else arranged for them. When the worship style changed in the 90s, it also changed who was responsible to arrange the song.
