On December 12th, 2015, The Manitoba Legislative Building held an "Open House" where politicians opened their office doors and spoke to people as children's choirs filled the halls.
Josh Sigurdson approached Justice Minister Gord Mackintosh as he was leaving and demanded answers on questions regarding CFS.
Mr. Mackintosh being the attorney general in Manitoba made it only reasonable to confront him on the CFS system in Manitoba.
Justice Murray Sinclair and Grand Chief Derek Nepinak have both said CFS is given financial incentive to take children. We asked Gord Mackintosh why that is and what he's doing about it. Mackintosh said what many politicians in the NDP are telling us, that they're working on it and trying to make it better. Obviously continuing to take good children from good families isn't making it better though.
In Manitoba there are 11,000 children in CFS care. Close to 90% of the children in care are First Nations. Only around 11.1% of the Manitoba population is First Nations.
There are huge margins for the rate of children in CFS becoming homeless as adults.
With the children being put in hotels and ending up missing, in gangs, on drugs, abused and raped and in several cases murdered, this is a problem that's not going away until the state gets their hands off the children. The government has no right to steal children from good families and destroy their lives creating problems in the future as well. It's time everyone stands up against this blatant injustice!

We of course will continue to push this issue until it's non-existent. Stay tuned for more confrontations from the Legislative Building Holiday Open House!
