Here's my first tutorial of a song transcribed from an instrument other than the Tres. It's 'Macusa' as played by Compay Segundo on his classic recording with Lorenzo Hierrezuelo (Los Compadres). Of course on the tune Compay is playing the Armónico, a Guitar/Tres hybrid that he invented many years before this was recorded. It's tuned like a guitar but up an octave and it has two G strings played as a pair.

Overall Macusa works really well on the Tres. I love the double stops in the intro, and the chords all sit in a comfortable position. Although, I will say that I did intend on including the solo on this video, however after transcribing, it just didn't work on the Tres. You really need those ringing open strings to pull it off and on the Tres (in this key) it's not possible.

These Los Compadres recordings were some of the first records I listened to when I first discovered this music more than twenty years ago. So these songs are really special to me. Honestly, I could quite happily transcribe this entire record.

For the tutorial I am tuned to C (GCE)

In the video I am playing my latest Baby Taylor Tres, for more on that click here:

The string gauges I'm using are:
G11/25 C17/17 E12/12

I transcribe all of the songs for my tutorials myself so I don't have the tablature for any of them.

The song at the end of the video is the classic tune ‘El Reloj De Pastora’ played by the incredible ‘Septeto Trio Los Dos’ who have graciously given me permission to use.

I make and sell Tres Cubano Conversion Kits for Baby Taylor Guitars. The kit can be installed in under 30 minutes with no luthier experience required. They cost $200 (USD) with free shipping worldwide.
