http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com Ka Choan hill tribe village was worth living through a very uncomfortable long-tail boat ride for its totems guarding graves and unusual funeral rites. And we learned so much about how they live. I had never seen a Tamarind tree before (and, truthfully, will never recognize another if I do see one) it is a member of the PEA family, and used as flavoring in Asian cooking! C Now know that Tribal people are accustomed to foraging for food necessities unlike my spoiled self. It's not surprising that we never saw an obese minority person. Other village sights - Even among the poorest of the poor, there's a pecking order. A beautiful new house could be found next to a pitiful hovel; people keep their little houses immaculate and sweep the dirt in front; and one of my favorite sights was the raised chicken coops so mice couldn't get to the baby chicks.
