Hopes of finding survivors in the rubble of a huge landslide in the Philippines faded as rescuers in a remote mountainous region on Monday recovered the bodies of miners, with dozens others still missing, two days after the killer typhoon Mongkhut struck.

Various reports put the death toll between 34 to 43 so far in the village of Ucab in Itogon Town.
