After living through homicidal breakdowns, revenge trips and death threats in his own home, Lance began to think of Wanda as a sister, leaving a semi- jealous Pietro and an overly protective Lance to fight over who really cared about her more. When Kitty doesn't approve of Lance's relationship with the homicidal witch she asks him to leave the Brotherhood house and join the X-men, for his own safety. Wanda feels she needs to abandon Lance before he abandons her, she claimes Pietro as her real brother and Lance just another person. Angered that Pietro left Wanda at the Asylum and used her more than once, yet she chooses him, Lance leaves to join the X-men, driving a wedge between himself, Wanda, and his best friend, Pyro. Lance is angry with Wanda for being disowned, and more angry with Wanda for choosing the man he hates most over him, but he can never bring himself to hate her, he can never bring himself to stop thinking of her as his family.
