An all-star cast bring to life Jack Kerouac's classic beat generation novel of cross-country adventuring. Following the death of his father in 1947, aspiring writer Sal Paradise (Sam Riley) meets charming, pot-smoking ex-con Dean Moriarty (Garrett Hedlund). Dean is married to the beautiful, seductive and liberated 16-year-old Marylou (Kristen Stewart). All three cut their ties and hit the wide-open highway in search of adventure and freedom. Along the way, they visit Sal's drug addict mentor Old Bull Lee (Viggo Mortensen) in New Orleans. The wild, sexually magnetic and dangerously irresponsible Dean also enjoys an affair with classy Camille (Kirsten Dunst). 'The Motorcycle Diaries' team of director Walter Salles and writer Jose Rivera rise magnificently to the challenge of adapting Jack Kerouac's supposedly unfilmable, autobiographical literary classic. Helping to capture its intoxicatingly free-spirited nature is an outstanding cast. Garrett Hedlund has a career-making role as Dean, while 'Twilight' star Kristen Stewart gives an uninhibited performance as Marylou.
