Ernesto intensified into a hurricane this evening, and is now bearing down on the Yucatan Peninsula as an 85mph Category 1 storm. Landfall is expected in an hour or less as of 12:30am UTC. After that, the storm should emerge in the Bay of Campeche as a tropical storm and may have another opportunity to intensify back into a hurricane, depending on how it fares over land and how far north it is when it reaches the other side. Heavy damage is not expected from the storm, but lives could be at risk if preparations haven't been undergone by this stage in the landfall area.
