I first learned this tune over 40 years ago, and I still come back to it from time to time to get the fingers loosened! I was taught it by a guitarist called Mike Deighan - we lived in the same small city - and have always known it as "Fingerbuster", though it only bears a passing resemblance to the Wille "The Lion" Smith classic. Mike was and is a great guitarist and banjo player and, as far as I know, is still playing banjo with the "Temperance Seven".

I first recorded this some time ago on my G&L ASAT - just one chorus, played very fast and lasting exactly one minute! So, I thought I'd take it a little slower to start with this time - more like an instructional video - with a bit of variation in the middle, then up the tempo a little. It's played on my Chisholm 00 Model, parlour-style guitar. In the key of G in both versions.
