Hull has changed a lot since I last visited in 1999. The shops are mostly "High Street UK", but there's some independent traders that I've not seen anywhere else. The museums are great, with plenty to see to interest and educate. A visit to the William Wilberforce museum moved me greatly. The exhibits on the slave trade had me sobbing.
