In 2013, Sky's Managing Director of Content, Sophie Turner Laing, clocks up her thirtieth visit to MIP. Her wide-ranging TV career has taken her from selling the Muppet Show around the world to the BBC to overseeing all of Sky's entertainment and news channels. In recent years, Sophie has been leading the transformation of Sky from being primarily a content aggregator and platform operator into a business that also commissions and sells its own programmes. By 2014, Sky will increase its spending on original content to £600 million by 2014 -- an increase of 50% on 2011. Sophie's wide-ranging experience makes her ideally placed to set out why great TV is so valuable to successful entertainment businesses. In doing so, she will also explain why betting on home-grown content is benefiting Sky and the creative community.
