Thanks for watching my Jimi Hendrix Cry Of Love 2014 Release video review. 

The release of ‘Cry of Love’ and ‘Rainbow Bridge’ on September 18, 2014, made me happy and sad at the same time. That date marked my 42 birthday but also Jimi’s 44th death anniversary. Anyway, I was obviously excited to get both CD’s on my birthday and my admittedly rather high expectations were fully met. I was of course very familiar with the contents of each album since I have the Rainbow Bridge vinyl and the regular CD version of ‘Cry of Love’. However, in terms of sound quality the re-releases are simply amazing and well worth the investment, in my opinion. Well, considering that you can get each CD for under $10, it’s actually a no brainer.
Why is Jimi’s ‘Cry of Love’ such an outstanding album and actually, now that I think about it, kind of unique? Because it serves as a perfect showcase of what a great songwriter the man actually was. I realize I’m talking about one of the finest guitarist who ever lived and his string-skills are obviously what Hendrix is known for. But I sometimes feel he doesn’t get enough credit for his talent as a songwriter and composer. Granted, this is just my opinion. 
I talked about this on my website already, but one more point I would like to make: ‘Cry of love’ reminds me of ‘Axis: Bold as Love’. Maybe it’s just me, but both releases work best for me when I listen to them as a whole vs. just picking individual tracks. There are a few exceptions, such as ‘Freedom’, ‘Astro Man’ and ‘In from the Storm’. But even those tunes become even stronger in the context of listening to the entire album. Not sure if I was able to articulate that very well, but I hope you know what I mean.
I’m not a friend of discussions around of what it the ‘best album’ ever produced by a certain artist or group. But there are some folks who feel that ‘Cry of Love’ marks a milestone in that it was Jimi’s last real studio record. I can understand that, because one may argue that what came after were merely either live recordings or compilations.
