Hey guys!

Here is part 8 of my beginner guitar course and in this tutorial we're going to be looking at what should be your first strumming pattern when you try and work through a chord progression - strumming each chord once on beat number 1 of each measure.

For this basic strumming pattern, you should work with your metronome to see if you can strum along at the target BPM. If you can't, you need to take the BPM lower and raising the tempo bit by bit until you are at the BPM of the song you are learning.

A count you can use out loud or in your head (instead of 1 2 3 4) is "STRUM CHANGE CHORD AND" to remind you that you have the remainder of the measure to get your fingers into the next chord shape.

We are strumming what are called WHOLE NOTES. A whole note lasts for 4 beats of the metronome.

I also go through how to understand Rhythm Slashes as a visual representation of a chord progression. which I like to show in my song tutorials.
