What are some fun ideas for a first date? What’s a great way to surprise him?

More often than not, people wind up always going and doing the same thing on dates. It’s always grabbing a coffee, going to see a movie, going to a restaurant, but these things get so boring! 

I remember when I was living in Washington DC, I decided to check out the dating scene and I met a woman on Tinder. When I showed up to the date, I kid you not, she was there with a notebook with a list of questions that she started firing off. It felt like being interrogated and was one of the worst dates I had ever been on! 

So we need to change the way people approach dates. I want to encourage you to try new activities and to think about what you can do to show him that you’re different from the rest. Think outside of the box and focus on fun things that maybe your date has never done before! 

For example, go carting! 

I was working with Christine recently, who was asking me about something interesting to try on a date with the guy she really likes. I told her to try something new, and when I found out about something called “topgolf,” I encouraged her to invite her date to try it out with her. Chances are that no woman had asked him to do this before, and they ended up going. And guess what, now they’re together! 

She had made the decision to have a fun first date that was unusual and allowed them to enjoy the present moment together. 

Another idea for where to go on a first date is a comedy show. Think about seeing a standup comedian with your date and spend the evening laughing together! 

Another cute date idea is to go dancing - just think about a place where you can have a glass of wine or a beer and talk as well. Think less nightclub and more charming pub where you can get to know each other. 

You can do something active together like going for a run at the beach or taking a yoga class. I bet no one has proposed this for a first date before! 

Go to an exhibition - brownie points if it’s something you’re passionate about. One of my clients was a photographer and was worried that she’d have nothing in common with the guy she had started seeing because he didn’t know the first thing about photography. I encouraged her to take him to a photography exhibition and he adored being invited into her universe like that and was fascinated by it! They are now together as well.

You can use dates to introduce this person into your world. What can you show them? How can you connect in a new way?

By organizing fun dates with this person, you can enjoy your time together, have fun, and attract them, all while being yourself!
