GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Police are dropping charges against an autistic man who was tased and taken into custody for resisting arrest on Christmas Eve. Greenville Police Chief Ken Miller said 34-year-old Tario Anderson is not competent enough to be charged due to his mental condition. Chief Miller said the officers were well within their means while using their Tasers, but, Anderson's mother alleges the officers were also beating her son, so now the state is investigating those claims. Chief Miller maintains there was no beating. In fact, he said, there was only about a six minute time span between calls of shots fired to the arrest of Anderson. Miller said around 11:51 p.m., officers heard the sound of gunshots near Sullivan Street and noticed Anderson walking toward nearby Augusta Street. Miller said the officers started following him, but he kept walking away with his hands in his pockets. Once they exited their vehicles and told him to stop, he allegedly ran and was tased after resisting arrest around 11:57 p.m. "They did a thorough investigation and they said they were going to bring SLED in to investigate. I mean what more, right now as a community, could we ask for? It shows they actually heard us and that's the whole thing," Traci Fant, community activist, said. Miller said the officers involved in Anderson's arrest are still on duty. _______________ Follow WLOS on social media: WLOS ABC 13 News on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/News13/ WLOS ABC 13 News on Twitter: https://twitter.com/WLOS_13 WLOS ABC 13 News on Instagram: https://instagram.com/wlos_13 Subscribe to WLOS on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/ABC13Channel/?sub_confirmation=1 Listen to AnchorMOMS, the Podcast: https://wlos.com/news/anchormoms/anchormoms-the-podcast Watch more top local news stories: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kk8Ge6UXHJs&list=PLkVbaoT-aYbIvnEpR0Ct5QQQqYaORUSUH For all of the day’s top local and national news, visit http://www.wlos.com Watch our live newscasts and other live video at https://wlos.com/watch Have a news tip?
