CAMPER with Emirates Team New Zealand is up against the clock as the round the world sailing team looks to return to racing after disaster struck on Leg Five of the Volvo Ocean Race from Auckland to Itajai, Brazil. The Spanish/New Zealand entry has diverted to Puerto Montt on the west coast of Chile to repair bow damage suffered in the brutal Southern Ocean conditions. The boat had been heading towards Point Nemo, the point in the ocean farthest from any land, before they fell foul of Mother Nature. The boat came up against the huge waves of the South Pacific in more than 40 knots of wind at peak boat speeds over 30 knots. The competitive CAMPER team are refusing to withdraw from Leg 5 and have pledged to resume racing after repairs are completed. This, however, this will leave them with little turnaround time before Leg 6 to Miami begins.
