New initiative seeks milkweed to help monarch butterflies

The population of monarch butterflies is declining, but you can help increase their numbers.

State workers in Ohio are asking for help in creating new habitats for butterflies by collecting milkweed seed pods from established plants. Ohio has been deemed a priority state for monarch migration.

They can then be dropped off at collection sites where they'll be used to establish new plantings in the coming years. Milkweed is essential for the butterflies to survive.
