Owen County McDonald's employee diagnosed with hepatitis A

OWEN COUNTY, Ky. (WKRC) - Owen County is now the latest to have a confirmed case of hepatitis A in a restaurant worker.

This is a virus can make you really sick and cause life-long complications, especially for the liver. 

Health experts are advising vaccinations against this virus and continued, careful handwashing. The Three Rivers District Health Department is now suggesting both of these measures for all those who live in Carroll, Gallatin, Owen and Pendleton counties.

The virus has been spreading in many areas, but the vaccine is now recommended specifically because of a case of hepatitis A that was diagnosed in an employee who handled food at the Owenton McDonald's on S. Main Street.

An investigation found that this employee worked while they were infectious. This included the dates of Aug. 16-27. You need to watch for symptoms for up to 50 days if you think you may be at risk.

The Three Rivers Health Department says Owenton McDonald's management is cooperating with this investigation. Since January, more than 50 cases have been reported just in northern Kentucky. Ohio and Indiana also have a number of cases.
