In this video, Bill Farr explains the devastating effect of being critical or judgmental on yourself and your partner. When someone is critical of themselves they have elevated levels of conflict in themselves leaving them open to being defensive against others. When someone is critical to others it is often because they are critical of themselves. A remedy for this is to find appreciation for self before it ruins your self-esteem and your relationship. Chapter 11 in my book gives a full explanation of how to overcome this.
