Call for charges on municipalities implicated in polluting the Vaal River

The Environmental Affairs department has been requested by Water and Sanitation to lay criminal charges against municipalities implicated in the pollution of the Vaal River. This was heard at the second leg of an inquiry into the sewage spillage. The inquiry, led by the South African human rights commission, also heard that a team is investigating the claims of raw sewage being spilled into the river.
