The present vs the future, a sobering reminder

The other day the news of the passing of Gary Warnett hit me like a bulldozer. Not only was it absolutely terrible that someone so young and highly acclaimed could be taken so young by something so routine, but also because Gary and I were childhood friends. We had spoken via social media after losing touch when we left middle school, and intended to catch up at some point soon. Sadly soon was not soon enough. Rest in peace Gary, I know we would have been right back to being great friends again, picking up just where we left off. My deepest condolences to his mother Wendy, and everyone from his past and present who knew him. R.I.P Gary.
