NASHVILLE, TN--This past winter will go down in history as one of the warmest on record and with our early taste of spring lately, t's hard to imagine that some of the biggest snows in Middle Tennessee have actually happened in late March!Snow coming down across the Mid-State can be a beautiful sight! Whether your just trying to stay warm or getting some big air sledding, something about snow is exciting! But snow is something we didn't see a lot of this year, this winter was the warmest we've had in nashville in 40 years! It's late march and most everyone we found walking around Hillsboro Village was soaking up the sun in short sleeves! "Just wonderful, I loved every minute of it," said Gary Ellison. "Yeah i loved it, I did not miss the snow, my car did not miss the snow," said Ben Mcleod.Meteorology 101 says the later in the season you go the lower the chance we have to get snow to actually stick to the ground. The sun is higher in the sky and the ground is just too warm. But believe it or not, some of the best snows we've had in Middle Tennessee have happened after spring has sprung.March 22, 1968 several inches of snow covered old model cars, trees, and fences as some tried all they could to shovel their way out. That storm gave Nashville 8.2 inches and three area cities set records for the most snowfall in a 24 hour period! Lebanon had 9 inches, Springfield and Murfreesboro each had 10 inches! The biggest snowfall on record Nashville was also a March storm. On March 17, 1892 17 inches fell! We're no stranger to late season snows. The latest snowfall of 4 inches or more was on March 24, 1940. The latest snowfall of 1 inch or more was all the way into spring, April 25, 1910!But can you guess when the latest snowfall has ever recorded in Nashville? Brace yourselves....the latest snow we've ever had was nearly into summer! May 19, 1984 we had a trace of snow in Music City!Looking ahead at the long term models, the jet stream is forecast to stay pinned up north keeping all the cold air in Canada! So the outlook for the next few weeks into April is for us to have above average temperatures. So for now, pull out the Frank Sinatra and remember the good times of snow from years past! On a typical year, Nashville gets around 9 inches of snowfall, this year we've had less than a half an inch! _______________ Stay up to date with our social media: WZTV on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/foxnashville/ WZTV on Twitter: https://twitter.com/FOXNashville Subscribe to WZTV on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCouaZqnOJay2Lacj8fomO3Q/?sub_confirmation=1 Daily News Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0NoehDI3QdbEPqmgxbSwBNiScxUXS0PR For more information, visit https://fox17.com/ Have a news tip?
