Metro School District Wants $48 Million Budget Increase - Erika Lathon

Metro Schools Director, Dr. Jesse Register is asking for $722 million dollars to fund schools for the 2012-2013 Fiscal Year. Its an increase of 7.2% or $48 million over last year. The proposal includes money to increase the starting salary for teachers from $34,000 to $40,000 a year. Support workers would get a 2% raise. Dr. Register says the budget reflects an investment in people. He believes the pay raises will help the District be more competitive in recruiting new teachers.
