The universe is one story seen from a single eye, at least objectively. We become subjective characters within it (the universe) because we have two. They give us our perspective, our place in space and time. But still, when they are closed, the one eye remains open. It only goes out once we die. That's when the universe disappears into nothing. That's not to say the eye cannot open up again one day to see some more, and cannot also become two to love and be loved by itself again. It seems a bit like the universe cannot decide once and for all whether it would rather exist or not exist.
