Hundreds of people competed in a bizarre annual contest – hurling BLACK PUDDINGS at Yorkshire puddings balanced on a 20ft high plinth.

Competitors in the World Black Pudding Throwing Championships today stood on a ‘golden grid’ and had three attempts to take out as many of the battered Sunday lunch staple as possible by lobbing the delicacy at them.

The bespoke puds are hurled at the target, with the winner being the one who wipes out the most in just three attempts.

The eccentric annual contest in Ramsbottom, Greater Manchester, (historically Lancashire) is believed to hark back to the grudge between the counties of Lancashire and Yorkshire during the War of the Roses.
