Quick update on this long ongoing project. Radio was rf/if aligned for AM and FM by Shango066. The AM avc has an issue which was made worse by a leaky grid bypass capacitor on the am front end tube. The receiver was overloading with distorted audio on many stations because the avc voltage was not reaching the grid due to the leaky cap. The bypass cap was replaced and AM performance is much better but still some distortion on the strongest station so more work needed in this area. A check of other resistors in the avc did not reveal any other faulty components.
