Typhoon Jelawat (Philippine name Lawin) continues to rapidly intensify, and is now a high-end Category 4 storm on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale. The storm currently has winds of 150mph and is expected to reach Category 5 status tomorrow. The future of the storm is still uncertain, but the Philippines is not in any immediate danger of a storm encounter. However, the storm may pass close to the northern part of the country on its way northwards and the whole coastline could feel some effects from the storm. The more critical threat lies with Taiwan, China, Korea and potentially Japan in the long term, but there is still some uncertainty with the track forecast and things may yet change. Stay tuned for more updates.
