Lanna-style Wat Pra That Si Chom Thomg Wora Wiharan isn't just any old temple. This temple has a pavilion filled with precious gold and silver Buddha images as well as a few and crowns placed on spires with rubies and diamonds. The last time I saw items of such value was in Phnom Penh's Royal Palace and they are really incredible. The Wat is one of the oldest and most highly revered temples in North Thailand and according to local legend, the Buddha once visited the hill where the temple now stands.

A sacred relic, reputed to be a piece of Buddha's skull is taken out and put on display for people to worship at important ceremonies.

A visit here is not part of the Cultural Mae Hong Son Loop but Chom Thong (Chomthong) is along the road between Chiang Mai and Doi Inthanon. Since you'll probably stop somewhere along this road for lunch, tell your guide to make 10 minutes for this magnificent Wat, admission is free. Please don't forget to Subscribe Share and Like. Thanks.
