CSIRO has formed a research partnership with Nuseed and the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) to develop plants that produce heart healthy, long-chain Omega-3 fatty acids (DHA). Currently, plants cannot produce significant quantities of the long-chain fatty acids that offer health benefits to the heart and brain. This partnership will enable scientists to make canola plants that produce these beneficial fatty acids and which can then be consumed in everyday canola-based products such as vegetable oil and margarine.
