Hey guys, follow Mia and I into the enchanting but forbidden forest! We’re in Oregon now. I’m happy to see interest in our pre-social media Pratt vlogs, I’d love to do more of them! We’re in Roseburg Oregon now, visiting Mia’s mom and enjoying the area. 

I have a story about our recent adventure. We took a different route to Oregon from California. Passing through Santa Barbara County, I wanted to introduce Mia to the delightful town of Solvang. Having visited before and fallen in love with its quaint Danish-style architecture and picturesque streets, shops, and bakeries, I knew Mia would appreciate its unique charm… and desserts! We resumed our journey along the scenic coastal highway but after dark things went downhill. 

Despite taking the car in for our traditional pre-roadtrip service & inspection, we encountered a frightening experience while driving on the freeway - one of our tires exploded! We called AAA for assistance and a nice CHP officer stopped and stayed with us until help arrived.

While replacing the tire we found the other three tires also displaying signs of imminent failure. Even with the spare, the car was not safe to drive much further, especially at freeway speeds. The CHP officer recommended an alternate route that would allow us to avoid the freeway on our way to a nearby hotel where we’d stop for the night and have the tires all replaced in the morning. 

As we exited the freeway, a dark car suddenly materialized behind us and began tailgating us aggressively w/o their lights on. I was unable to shake the driver, who continued to get closer and closer until I feared they might ram into us. There was no way I was going to speed down this dark road with four bad tires to get away from this guy, so I signaled to get over and let the driver pass. As soon as I put my signal on, the red and blue lights started flashing. It was a cop. Guess the fun isn't over tonight!

We were pulled over by the police for driving safely at night - an action that apparently raised suspicion in California. I explained to the officer that we couldn't speed like your average negligent LA drivers as we had four bad tires and just had a very close call when one of them just exploded. 

The officer was taken aback by our predicament, and proceeded to shine his flashlight in my eyes. He didn’t believe my story. He had made me get out of the car, so I showed him how the tires were bulging. He didn’t believe it. I showed him the shredded tire that was now in the trunk. He still wasn't convinced. I told him we had an officer with us who would back up my story. The cop asked me to describe the man, which I did. He said my description didn’t match any existing person. Was the CHP officer a.. GHOST??? I even had video footage in my camera, and a call to AAA in the phone history. Was it really that unbelievable someone could have had car trouble?

It was a young officer trying to act tough. He let me know he could arrest me, if he wanted to. It was important to him that I understood what he *could have* done, but since we’d done positively nothing wrong, at all, he was gracious enough to let us go w/o a ticket, warning, or jail. Not the best experience, but things could have also been much worse, in all of those situations, so, we’re thankful that was the extent of it (plus the cost of four new tires...).

Anyway… we made it safely to Roseburg and we're having a good time in Oregon, hope you’ll join us for more Oregon vlogs! We’ll leave the California chaos behind for a few videos, at least.
