http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com Pingyao Ancient City is one of the only completely walled cities left in China. It was a thriving merchant town and many scenes from "Raise The Red Lantern" were filmed here. A completely charming city with many ancient sights to see. It was also crammed to the jowls with tourists, most day-tripping. Night was the best when red lanterns were lit, the streets quieted down and you could actually stroll the pedestrian-only streets without worries about being mowed down by bicycles.
