http://gia.edu/gem-encyclopedia Fancy Color Diamonds Hue, Tone and Saturation by GIA. How are fancy color diamonds evaluated on the basis of hue, tone and saturation? In this video, John King discusses the complicated nature of fancy color diamond assessment, which is not linear. There are three attributes that determine how fancy color diamonds (sometimes referred to as natural colored diamonds or fancy colored diamonds) are graded: hue, tone and saturation. Using a combination of these three attributes, GIA graders evaluate a natural color diamond using the GIA Colored Diamond Color Grading System to determine the relationship between colors and how they interrelate in a fancy color diamond.
