A 2017 commercial for Comcast's Xfinity X1 television service claims that Verizon Fios has "fallen behind with the times", offering a voice remote and the ability to download DVR'd shows. However, what they will NOT admit is that they've taken "1 step forward, 2 steps back" by downconverting many of its HD channels to 720p, transmitting them at bit rates much lower than Verizon (which also still keeps 1080i channels at 1080i). UPDATE, APRIL 2018: Verizon was planning to release a new platform for its Fios TV service sometime in 2017, which will also include a voice remote. However, as of 2018, this was shelved. So perhaps Fios has in fact "fallen behind" with its software and remote controls when compared to Xfinity X1.
