Exemption of commercial driving license will increase traffic chaos, parking blues

Taxis, autos, e-rickshaws and two-wheelers drivers will need to have commercial license for operating these vehicles. The road transport ministry issued an advisory on Monday to the state governments to follow this norm in order to comply with a Supreme Court order of July 2017. It was mandatory to obtain a commercial licence to drive any transport vehicle and an incumbent would have to wait for one year to get the commercial licence after obtaining a private driving licence. Even if one accepts the argument of government that by doing so it would end a lot of corruption especially at RTOs but at the same time the exemption will create a lot of traffic chaos and become a nightmare for traffic police as it is bound to increase congestion as it will add taxis, e-rickshaws and three wheelers in addition to existing number. Apart from increasing traffic the hasty decision would also give birth to parking problems. However, commercial licence will be required to drive heavy vehicles.
