Court of Appeal has upheld the ruling of Anti-corruption court that left David Jamwa, the former managing Director of NSSF, sentenced to 12 years because of corruption.
In their judgment, the Appellant court judges Justice Kenneth Kakuru and Opiyo Aweri, upheld the lower court’s sentence.
However, the third judge, Stephen Kavuma, disagreed with the ruling.
The two judges concurred with the High Court’s findings and upheld Jamwa’s 12-year sentence.
They also added another 4 years for abuse of office, which sentences are to run concurrently
The Appeal was filed by the applicant's lawyers of AF Mpanga Advocates who were challenging Jamwa's sentence of 12 years in jail after being found guilty of corruption.
According to prosecution, between September and November 2007 in Kampala, Jamwa in his performance of duties sold off several government bonds which were owned by NSSF at prices below their discounted value, causing financial loss to the Fund.
He was later released on Bail in 2011 after appealing his sentence of 12 years as per Anti-corruption court.
