Barbie rod fishing challenge for spanish mackerel, one of the fasted fish in the sea. Me and Chris decided to head out to do some serious barbie rod fishing with a species that has the tendency to strike at speeds up to 35 miles per hour. The rod and reel was equipped with the standard 6lb test mono-filament line, a 30lb leader and a 1/0 long shank hook to help with bite offs. We landed no fewer than 10 mackerel and missed 20 or so, fishing with such a small rod definitely brings it's own challenges, the meteorologist definitely failed on the wind and wave speed, so we were battling both the fish and the elements.
