Newly mixed version of The Tourist Company performing at the Surrey Tree Lighting Festival on the 22nd November 2014. If you're interested, here's how I recorded the show: Equipment - Nikon D800 SLR camera; RODE Stereo Pro microphone (attaches to flash shoe and connects to microphone input on side of camera. Tripod - always! Camera records both video AND sound in manual modes - so I get to control exposure AND input volume. Finally, I brought the audio part of the video track into an app called FINAL TOUCH - a Mastering app on my iPad 2. That way I could bring out the mids and voice frequencies, add some dynamics, EQ, a bit of enhanced stereo, add a little sharpness, control bass and drum hits and attempt to balance the sound through EQ. Remember that I was about 15ft (5m) from the front/middle of the stage so the RODE mic was picking up sound from the left and right main speakers but also directly from stage sound - like drums and monitor speakers. Interesting to see how much you can record from just a single SLR and an attached (pretty decent) stereo mic! If you're interested in any more details about the recording process that I haven't given here, feel free to email me at [email protected]
