After the Opium War in 1842, 13 countries including Great Britain, France and Japan established consulates, churches and hospitals in Guylangyu turning the island into an International Foreign Settlement.

Guylangyu Island has gardens built by a wealthy Taiwan businessman, a Piano Museum, tiny streets with primarily decrepit, deserted but still atmospheric villas and consulates. A very worthwhile place to ferry over and spend a day. Walk around, admire the old architecture and try some unique cuisine...IF...you are an adventurous eater.
