Rookie boxers Mark Bates and Elvis Parsley square off at Super Featherweight in a very quick fight. Although it was sloppy, it was still a very exciting encounter. More info below...

Mark Bates (in the black trunks) had actually turned pro in 1986, losing his first fight but then picking up 3 wins in a row before suffering his next loss in 1987. He took a break from the sport for 3 years before deciding to return and had a 3-2 record with only 1 KO to his name.

Elvis Parsley had his first pro fight just 16 days earlier picking up a 3rd round TKO.

Both men came forward and fought each other toe to toe for most of the round and although there wasn't a lot of skill being shown between the 2 it was a fast paced furious brawl while it lasted. Nearing the end of the 1st round Parsley thought he had Bates trapped against the ropes and moved in on him however Bates was able to twist out of the way, reversing the situation, and retaliated with 2 perfectly placed left hooks on the jaw in quick succession which dropped Parsley face first. Parsley got back to his feet but quickly took a knee again for a long count however he got distracted looking at his corner and forgot to rise in time and was counted out.

Elvis Parsley kept boxing until 1998 but had little to no success. He competed for the BBBofC Midlands Area Featherweight and British Featherweight titles but failed to win either. He retired with a 14-11-1 record.

Mark Bates had made a solid return to the ring after a 3 year layoff and would go on to win his next 4 fights as well before being stopped by Peter Buckley in 1991. Bates had his final fight in 1992 and retired with a 9-3 record.
