NASHVILLE, Tenn.  -- Construction of the new Nashville Sounds stadium uncovered ancient artifacts Saturday, according to a spokesperson in the mayors office. Construction continued as usual Thursday, except for a 40-foot-wide space in the middle where archaeologists continued to sift for history. Saturdays find yielded deer and bird bones, mussel shells and pieces of pottery, the mayor's spokesperson said. There's still no telling what else, if anything the archaeologists might uncover, but experts at the Tennessee State Museum say additional findings could put change the game at Sulphur Dell If it's human remains of course everything stops, said Dan Pomeroy, chief curator. Pomeroy is not involved with the current dig out at Sulphur Dell, but says that's the perfect place to find artifacts. Almost anywhere, particularly around a river that you're going to start digging, there's a chance you're going to come across native American objects because it was very likely there could have been a settlement somewhere in that area, Pomeroy said. If archaeologists do find Native American artifacts the construction could hit some roadblocks, Pomeroy said. There are specific federal laws that apply to Native American burials and remains, including artifacts, Pomeroy said.   It becomes quite a challenge if it's a Native American site. I asked the office of the Tennessee State Archaeologist elaborate on the findings. He directed questions to the diggers on site, who actually work for a contractor called TRC.   Dig director Larry McKee directed questions to the mayor's office, where a spokesperson says they have not found human remains and construction is expected to go on as scheduled.
