Is govt's response enough on VAT?

Finance Minister Tito Mboweni has announced government is to scrap VAT on sanitary pads in 2019. During the medium-term budget speech on Wednesday, Mboweni announced the removal of VAT from non-luxury items which include sanitary pads, white bread flour and cake flour. Mboweni also announced the rolling out of free sanitary pads to low fee schools in all provinces. Amandla dot mobi, an advocay group working with communities around the country and have been campaigning for free sanitary towels and zero VAT has cautiously welcomed the move.
