The dwarf hamster has two toe warts

The left fore paw digit 3 has an ear wart ventrally. The left hind paw has another wart between digit 1 and 2. 

It is best to get the warts excised as the hamster will keep licking them in an attempt to get rid of them. The wart also grows bigger with time.

However, Dr Daniel's opinion is that the toe with the large wart may need to be amputated with the wart and the owner's daughter was not in favour of the surgery. So the owners took the hamster home with some anti-inflammatory medication.

3 days later, the owner phoned to say that the hamster still lick the toe warts which have grown bigger. "I have told you that surgery is the only option as the wart will grow bigger. That is why I don't prescribe oral medication." However, I did not warn her that the toe may need to be cut off with the big wart as I assess that the wart can be looped off without amputation of the toe. Dr Daniel advised that there is a possibility. Each vet has his or her own opinion and this is up to the owner to decide with informed consent. Recurrence of wart is possible and in that case, the toe may need to be amputated.  

"My daughter is now more realistic. If the toe with warts need to be amputated, she is agreeable to it."
