Sunday Dec 15, 2013 Vomiting and diarrhea is usually caused by infection of the stomach and intestines. However another cause can be kidney disease. In the beloved very old dog of 17 years, the blood test was advised to screen the kidneys and liver. However, an IV drip with antibitoics and anti-spasmogesic was what the owners wanted. The dog's tongue was pale initially. The dextrose saline IV drip was given from 2.30 pm. At 6pm, I noticed the dog's head trembling and the dog was on his chest.. I gave her glucose IV and her tongue colour changed to pink and she could stand up for a while. . Nowadays, many small breed owners ask me how long can a dog live? Small breed dogs can live to a ripe old age past 15 years and up to 20 years. This Shih Tzu is 17 years old and much loved by the couple.
