On day 3 of the month long, Yak Tribe tournament, I decided to leave the section of Watts Bar that I had been catching fish the previous two days and move a few miles up the Tennessee River to fish a shallower section. The old saying "Don't leave fish to go find fish" held true once again. I struggled all day long. I started out anchored with my baits cast into a creek mouth. I hooked and lost a small blue catfish at the side of the kayak early in the day. That was the last action I would get for several hours. I moved down to fish a river bend. I focused on the outside of the bend and moved down in increments every 30 minutes until I had fished my way around it. I had some dink catfish peck at my baits periodically but no hookups. As a last ditch effort on the way back to the launch, I decided to anchor down in the creek mouth where I had started my day. Thankfully, I caught a small blue catfish to finish out my 8 fish limit for the tournament and keep me from getting skunked on the day. While it wasn't the day I had hoped for, I am happy to have finished off my limit. Now I can spend the rest of my fishing days this month, focusing on culling my smaller fish.
