East African athletics powerhouse Kenya held its World Championship trials on Saturday with the hope of selecting a strong team to represent the nation at the August games. Patrick Kimeli outwitted the rest of the field to claim top honours in the men's 10,000 meters race in a time of 27 minutes, 53.67 seconds. Vincent Rono came in second with Matthew Kisorio finishing third. Mark Otieno won the men's 200 meters race in a time of 20.41 seconds to emerge with a rare sprint double after he had earlier won the 100 meters race with a new national record of 10.14 seconds.
